Despite being something of a budget brand, St Moriz seems to be highly regarded in the tanning world and I have read countless positive reviews about their products. But would it work for my skin tone? Yes it did and I have to say it's my favourite out of all the tans we have been testing over the last two months!

Easy to apply, smells good and I loved the results (top arm). No streaks at all and this photo was taken almost a week after application and you can still see the lovely bronzed effect it gave my skin. The number one reason I would recommend this over all the other tans is the fact that it costs so little, around £3 a bottle compared to £18-£25 mark that most tanning products seem to sell for.

I didn't know they had a bronzer range but I was also sent their bronzer in dark to review. The powder is smooth and silky to apply but my problem with this is that I don't think this is a bronzer at all. Personally I consider bronzers as being dark brown/golden olive in colour with maybe a hint of shimmer. St Moriz is a full on rose gold shimmer which is absolutely gorgeous as a highlighter on dark skin and this is the only way I would use it.

The St Moriz website isn't very informative about where you can buy their products as you have to ring a number to find out. A quick Google search shows that Fragrance Direct stocks St Moriz and the tanning lotion is £2.99 and the bronzer £2.75. I've also read that Tesco sells St Moriz but I have yet to see any in my local.

Have you read the other reviews by the other ladies?
This brings the TFWOC project to an end and I'd like to thank Annie & LaaLaa for all their hard work! I no longer consider myself to be a tanning novice. I have learnt that there are tanning products suitable for my skin tone and that they will only bronze and enhance my natural colour, not darken which was a common misconception. It doesn't mean that I will be tanning on a regular basis but I know there are options for me out there if I need them :)
Tasshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17334717827247530617noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1200585552678800362.post-41649051602725257872012-10-29T21:30:00.000+00:002012-10-29T21:30:33.023+00:00Vita Liberata Phenomenal Tanning Mousse Medium #TFWOC

Using a special combination of natural nourishing extracts and the unique pHenO2 technology, Vita Liberata has reinvented self tan. pHenomenal contains all the USPs of our other tanning products, but can last up to 4 times longer:*

• No streaking & No smells.
• 100% free from parabens, perfume and alcohol.
• Easy to apply.
• Unique Pentavitin moisture lock complex.
• 70% organic extracts that are kind to skin and produce a natural fade (eventually!)

This tanning mousse claims to be the world's first 2-3 week tan and I couldn't wait to test it. The pump action nozzle delivered a fine spray of mousse but you have to rub it in quickly or it can stain. I'm sure not everyone has to stop to take a blog photo first so you probably won't have this problem ;). I like gel formulations better but this is a personal preference, it wasn't any trouble to apply at all. It is tinted so you can see where you have applied and I'm not sure if it has a discernible scent as my nose was blocked at the time, but from reading other reviews apparently there is no biscuity smell. The residue remained sticky and I didn't think it dried very quickly at all. You're supposed to leave it on for at least three hours before showering and I left mine on for over a whole day. Out of all the brands we have tested so far I think this was the most informative with lots of instructions on the bottle as well as a little leaflet explaining how to apply on different areas of your body.

This photo was taken a few days later and my results are non existent - it's the arm on the bottom that had the tan applied but you can't see a difference despite two applications. What I did notice the next day after I washed it away was that I had some red/orange tones to my arm but nothing I would call a tan. Would the results have been different if I had used a darker shade? Not sure, however it seems from the other reviews in the TFWOC project that almost everyone had similar results. Do check them out!

I love a good matte bronzer and was glad to see it was one of the products that Make Believe had sent us to review for #TFWOC. At first glance I wasn't bowled over by the packaging which I found big, clunky and not handbag friendly at all. On the other hand I did like the mirror and soft brush although I didn't use it as I prefer firmer bristles. Upon swatching it was clear that this wouldn't work for my skintone, especially since I had been on holiday and my face had naturally tanned darker. It showed up slightly ashy and not flattering at all which is a shame as the formulation was smooth, just the way I like it! Unfortunately this only comes in one shade so if you are NC44+ it's not the one for you but if you are NC42 and under it would be a nice bronzer for contouring.

Make Believe's Sunbeam Bronzer is available to buy from their website (RRP £15)

Breathtakingly beautiful and unlike any other place I have been to before, the Mr and I spent a week here on what should be a beach holiday but we couldn't sit still and were itching to explore. This is going to be long and picture heavy!

We stayed in the beach resort of Perissa which is seen to be the "budget" part of the island and the only attraction is the beach and the restaurants/bars that line the main road. There is nothing else to do there but it has the best beaches with unusual black sand. Impossible to walk on without flip flops without burning the soles of your feet which I found out the hard way. Second photo is of mount Messa Vuono which I climbed but more on that later.

We took the bus to the capital Fira (sometimes spelled Thira or Thera) which was mostly lots of tourist shops and restaurants. It was possible to climb up and down the caldera by foot, cable car or donkey but in the 28 degree heat we passed on these options. I will never agree with donkey rides, they looked tired and forlorn but I don't think many other tourists cared.

The next day we took a quick trip to the northern town of Oia (or Ia) where we planned to watch the sun setting but car journey there with the narrow winding roads climbing higher and higher was petrifying and we didn't want to repeat the journey back down in the dark with no freaking street lights!

The only half way decent photo of me Everything else just shows the "sweaty hair plastered to head state" I was constantly in. I had a full bag of makeup with me but the only thing that would stay on was concealer and waterproof mascara.

So back to Fira we went to watch the famous sunset. In high season it would have been rammed but as we went in the last week of summer there weren't many people around so we got to enjoy the view without having to jostle for a good spot.

Another day and another trip, this time to the Ancient Akrotiri excavation site, a town from the Bronze Age which was buried in volcanic ash when the (still active) volcano erupted. From my many other photos it looks nothing more than piles of rocks as the site hasn't been developed properly for tourists yet and they are still excavating. Most of the good stuff had been sent to the museum in Athens but it was pretty cool to be walking around a place where Minoans lived over 4000 years ago!

The Red Beach nearby was a 10 minute hike over uneven and dusty rocks and a big disappointment. It was small, cramped and the large pebbles were painful to walk on.

Remember mount Messa Vuono? Well I climbed it! On the second day we hiked up halfway to visit a small chapel cut away in the cliff face and on the last day we went all the way up to the Ancient Thera excavation site which was sadly closed for the day and then down the other side to the beach town of Kamari. It took just over two hours and on the way up I was passed by several couples in their 60s (the shame!). I never knew how unfit I was, I really struggled with the incline and the narrow pebble paths but I managed to do it.
Kamari was pretty but expensive and the beach was mediocre so we took the water taxi back to Perissa for dinner. The food was beautiful and we ate well - Greek salads, fresh fish, stuffed peppers/tomatoes and many delicious aubergine dishes.
I'm not sure if I would go back to Santorini as I have so many other places I'd like to see but it's a place I thoroughly enjoyed and would recommend everyone to visit. So if you are considering visiting the Cyclades islands in the future, go to Santorini you won't regret it!
From reading other beauty blogs it's apparent that Xen-Tan is one of the bigger self tanning brands out there with a devoted following and Deep Bronze Luxe seems to be a big hit with everyone so I was really excited to try it.

It comes out this murky olive green colour and has a pleasant scent but the major pitfall I found was it blended in transparent and I couldn't tell where I had already applied. As I was applying this on my arm it wasn't such a big deal, but if I was doing a full body application this would have really bugged me. It does say "instant colour" on the packaging but I couldn't see anything developing even after a few hours.

In fact over the week I still couldn't see a change to my skin tone until I took these photos several days later. Can you see how my arm has acquired a slight olive tone (top arm)? But so slight that I can't see it with my naked eye so not much point really! It's supposed to last a week but this faded 4-5 days later. Quite disappointed with the results but my conclusion is that this is suited to those with fairer skin and not mine :)

I had the mini "try before you buy" 30ml sample which retails for £3.99 from Xen-Tan's website and you can get the full sized version (236ml) for £21.50 from feelunique.

Make Believe's glow tinted moisturiser is supposed to help you enhance your existing tan or even those born with one ;)

It's a case of one shade for all skin tones and when I first squeezed it out of the tube my initial reaction was that it seemed too cool toned and would show up ashy but this wasn't the case at all. The consistency was thicker than expected and for this reason I used it over my normal moisturiser. You really have to work it into the skin and as I didn't have a suitable brush I used my hands but I think a buffing brush would work much better. Coverage was minimal but what it did provide was a lovely even glow, just as the name suggests. This product also contains shimmer particles and I was so paranoid that my face was sparkling on the tube but I didn't receive any funny looks so it's probably only close up that you can tell. The only downside I found was that it clung to the dry skin around my nose making it more noticeable but that could probably be remedied with a facial serum or extra dose of moisturiser in that area.

Whilst I enjoyed using this product I wouldn't personally buy it as I don't feel it's an essential part of my makeup routine and it's a bit pricey. Make Believe Glow Tinted Moisturiser retails for £15 (30ml) and is available on their website.Tasshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17334717827247530617noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1200585552678800362.post-86785759130974066682012-10-01T14:21:00.000+01:002012-10-01T14:21:59.970+01:00Make Believe Self Tan Lotion With Bronzer #TFWOC

Over the last week I have been testing out Make Believe's self tanning lotion with bronzer. Make Believe have been very generous in also sending a tinted moisturiser and bronzer to review which will be posted separately over the upcoming weeks.

Up to now the TFWOC group have been reviewing wash off tans and this is my first ever experience of a gradual tanner. As a complete tanning novice I was kind of expecting the usual things I had read about when tanning like biscuit smells, stained sheets etc. I'm pleased to say that it was nothing of the sort.

Another chocolate resembling lotion, this smelled absolutely delicious and I couldn't stop sniffing. Wafts of sugary vanilla - no biscuits here! A glove was provided in the box and although a thoughtful addition it proved to be very ineffective as I ended up with streaks. If I had had the foresight to buy a tanning mitt I would have used one but my hand was just as good and they didn't end up stained either.

The best thing about this product was the addition of the bronzer so I could see where I had applied and where I needed to. It didn't really sink into my skin and I wasn't sure if it was supposed to but my legs stayed sticky and I had to wait until they dried before I could go on with my day. This might have been because I used a body butter immediately before applying but it was a bit annoying.

It only takes a couple of hours for the colour to develop but I only saw a difference in colour the next day. It's subtle and isn't very noticeable in artificial light but in natural lighting there's a definite golden glow. I think it's almost like my skin tone but better? The above photo was taken about 5 days after application and I hope you can tell it's my right leg which is tanned. It has started to fade nicely with no patches so far (thankfully). It does say that you can reapply for a deeper colour which I would definitely do.

The self tan lotion with bronzer retails for £24.50 and is available on Make Believe's website where they have an extensive range of tanning products. Watch out for my review of their tinted moisturiser tomorrow.
Forgive me for running a little behind on part two of the TFWOC project but the latest product is GOSH's Instant Tan Gel, the only high street product myself and a few other bloggers have been reviewing over the past week. See here for a list of the other ladies taking part and do look out for reviews on Karamel & Brown which half of the group are reviewing instead.

Gosh Instant Tan Gel gives a beautiful, instant and natural looking tan that washes off with soap and water. Free from DHA. Simple to apply, absorbs easily and provides an even colour. Dries quickly, non-greasy and streak free. Is formulated with DayMoist CLR, a natural based moisturiser containing sugar beet root and corn starch which provides intense and long lasting hydration. Also enriched with Vitamins A,E and F, and organic Gojiberry. Will help protect skin from free radicals and premature ageing.

Mmmmm chocolate? No it's not! This wash off tanning gel is runnier than I expected and despite the dark cocoa like appearance it gave a light wash of colour once blended into the skin. I used my hands to apply and didn't experience any streaks nor staining of my palms but I did wash my hands pretty quickly after. Supposedly takes only 60 seconds to set but I found it took a little longer, especially the inside of my elbow which stayed tacky. It smelled a bit like washing up liquid to me when I first pumped it out but once dried it has a nice but inoffensive smell which I couldn't smell again unless I sniffed my arm closely. It says to try not getting your skin wet or sweating for at least four hours which I don't think I did?? And here is how my arm looked like a couple of hours after application.

I loved the result and actually think my non tanned arm is very pasty in comparison now. I had a fear it would look a bit unnatural but I personally think it looks like my skin does when naturally tanned by the sun. Bronzed and glowy! It did fade after a couple of hours so I wouldn't say it's long lasting at all but it's brilliant for instant colour and washes off easily with soap and water. I don't know about the whole protection from premature ageing thing but I did find that my skin was left soft and moisturised when compared to my other arm. It is suitable to use on your face too but I'm a bit hesitant to because the skin on my face has more natural oils and I think it would end up looking patchy. I really enjoyed using this and I'll be saving this for my arms, legs and feet.

GOSH Instant Tan Gel is available to buy from Superdrug (RRP £7.69 for 150ml) and comes in Light, Medium and Dark. The last time I was on a beach I was wearing something like this:

via Amazon

I do swim at my local pool but I won't get away with wearing my speedo boyleg suit on a sandy beach! But seriously, I've found it so hard to find something suitable which in my case is supportive, pretty and not too low cut. I don't do bikinis, one shoulder, strapless, cut outs, high legs or plunge front but it seems all that's available right now is a mixture of everything of the above which is so frustrating. Also something under £30 but of course all the ones that I've liked have been well over this. Seafolly have beautiful swimsuits but they're around £90 which I cannot justify spending for something I probably will only wear on this holiday alone.
I bought these two suits from the Boden sale but as gorgeous and well fitting as they are, they show SO much cleavage it's not even funny. I have a thing for florals if you hadn't already noticed and I thought this was really pretty but once again, it is plop if you are a C cup and above. I took it for a test swim in the pool and thankfully I was wearing a cropped tankini top underneath (which made me look like an idiot) because in the water the front drooped down completely. Argh! I still haven't found anything else so looks like I'm going to have to buy an underwired bikini top to wear underneath.
Am I the only one with swimwear problems? :(Tasshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17334717827247530617noreply@blogger.com14tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1200585552678800362.post-48652672683398303752012-09-17T14:37:00.000+01:002012-09-17T14:39:05.127+01:00Chop

Bye bye long bleached green split ended hair, hello short and healthy locks. I like to go for the chop every so often and love having both short and long hair. I am never faithful to just one hairdresser and went to Splash Salon on Goodge Street after work on Thursday where they only do walk in appointments. Perfect for those like me who like getting their hair cut on a whim. I paid £30 for a wash, cut & blow dry as my hair was quite long but if you have shorter hair it's something like £12. Can someone please tell me how much you are expected to tip? I gave £5 because my stylist was so nice and he cut his finger in the process but he also showed me how to dry my hair so it wouldn't flick up at the ends. Is £5 too much/too little? HELP

Also, if you are a hairdresser, what is your blow drying secret?!! Even though I was shown, I went home and used the exact same technique but my hair wasn't sleek, swishy and shiny just dry and slightly fluffy. In fact my hair looks nothing like the photo now, it's more Dora the Explorer :(

I WILL persevere but do you have any blow drying tips for me? xx
First product to be reviewed in the TFWOC project is the Abi O BeauBronz Shimmer Tan Boost, a light tanning product with plenty of golden shimmer. Containing just 2.5% DHA (active tanning ingredient) there won't be a dramatic difference in tone but just enough to give your skin a nice glow which is exactly what it did for me.

The pump made application a doddle and it blended easily into my skin leaving a lovely golden shimmer which sparkled in the light. The overall smell isn't the nicest (think raw potatoes) but it wasn't overly unpleasant. However it is noticeable which bothered me and I felt that it did linger afterwards. Containing rose hip oil, vitamin E and aloe vera I expected it to be more moisturising than it was but this wasn't too important for me. My skin stayed slightly tacky for a while after application but didn't transfer onto my clothing or anything.

Personally I thought the change in colour was very minimal and didn't show up on camera but I believe repeat applications would have had a better result. It states that this product is best suited for tanned black or brown skin but I don't think it would work very well on darker skin tones in terms of tanning. However for the shimmer factor alone it would be great!

I think this would be more suited to legs, arms and decolletage rather than all over your body, and especially on nights out unless you like to rock the shimmer everyday ;)

All Abi O products are free from parabens, contain natural and organic ingredients and are cruelty free. I have the trial size which is £8 for 50ml and the full size retails for £26 for 200ml. Both are available to buy online at BeauBronz.Tasshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17334717827247530617noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1200585552678800362.post-24777957618317661102012-09-10T23:26:00.000+01:002012-09-10T23:26:58.672+01:00Tans For Women Of Colour Project #TFWOC

Did you know there were products available and aimed at women of colour? I certainly didn't and over the next few weeks I'll be testing various bronzing and tanning products as part of the #TFWOC project organised by fellow bloggers LaaLaa from Dolce Vanity and Annie from EpiphannieA.

It appears that the general consensus amongst the Asian community I have grown up in, is that tans are unattractive and unappealing. I actually have friends who refuse to go out on fiercely sunny summer days but me? I love having a tan and I try and keep the sun kissed glow for as long as possible (just pointing out that I do wear the appropriate SPF). One of the main aims of this project is to find tanning/bronzing products suitable for WOC and in the words of LaaLaa, "encourage women to steer away from harmful and unsafe methods such skin bleaching by showing them how they can enhance and even out their skin by tanning and or bronzing and still be proud and beautiful."

You can also see how these products work on a variety of different skin tones as we have been split into groups according to MAC shades. I'm a NC44 and in Group C.
To be honest I haven't always washed my face every night (the shame) and when I do, it's with a £4 face wash which doesn't cut it anymore, especially as I am now in my late 20s (!!). I've been trying my best to stick to this new routine instead of being lazy and just removing my eye makeup before jumping into bed.

I have a Clarisonic but I don't use it very often, preferring to use a flannel instead. I'm currently using this Avene gel cleanser which I apply to my dry face, massage in then remove with a hot flannel. Scrubbing with the flannel leaves my skin really clean and pink, you can really see the blood coming back into your face. It's not abrasive or painful in any way, just mild and very effective. It also really helped by unblocking my sinuses during the bad hay fever days. I can't recommend face flannel washing enough!

I usually follow up with this Trilogy gentle calming fluid which I received in a gift bag. As the name suggests it's typically used for soothing sensitive or irritated skin but can also be used as a light moisturiser. I hate using heavy face creams in summer because I can't stand having a sticky face! This fluid is almost serum like in consistency and adds enough moisture without being overbearing.

About twice a week I use this overnight intensive mask by Origins. I don't have very dehydrated skin but so many people have said how amazing this is and I wanted to see for myself. I had never used a leave on mask before and it felt a bit weird to apply it then not wash it off. It can be really easy to over apply which I managed to do a few times and you can really feel it on your face but it does work. Waking up in the morning my skin feels and looks plumper. It also smells lovely, like apricots!

I've also given myself a kick up the bum with eye cream. Day or night I always manage to forget. I had been using the Benefit one which was perfectly fine but I wanted to try something different. I couldn't decide between Origins Ginzing or Eye Doctor but eventually went for the latter as I felt my eyes needed more hydration. I don't think Eye Doctor helps reduce the appearance of dark shadows as it claims to do but it's very good at moisturing and soothing. No complaints so far.

So this is my nightly routine and whilst it's not the best out there it has been working well for me. I've also bought some other skin products but will be doing separate posts on those. What do you use in your routine and are there any must haves you can recommend? I've been really good and haven't bought many new things for ages but from the 4 new things I have bought I haven't really pushed the boat out have I...

A quick browse in the Zara sale last week and I came home with these two dresses for a tenner each. They're the same plain dress with a low back and I couldn't decide between pink and green so I bought both because I didn't have the energy for the changing rooms that day. I still haven't made up my mind but I'm leaning towards the green which I promise doesn't look so dull in real life.

It's still sticky and humid outside but I think I'm always on the lookout for new boots, whatever the season. My sister bought these Chelsea boots from Tesco (£15) and I liked them so much I quickly followed suit. I've never worn Chelsea boots before and not too sure if they go with everything. My sis says I should wear them with my jeans rolled up? Seems like it's going to rain this weekend so they'll get their first outing.

Was initially going to name this post "stud love" though quickly reconsidered after thinking about the keyword searches. But I do love studs! I know that everyone will be wearing these Primark velveteen studded loafers (£12) but I could not leave the shop without them. I am usually a 6 in flats but had to size up and even the 7's are a bit snug. They have a green version too but compared to black they aren't so pretty. I also snapped up this studded clutch bag (£6) and this style seems to be everywhere at the moment. I think the Zara version is so much nicer/daintier so will probably get that to use as a purse. Topshop also has a suede studded purse but with silver conical studs. For once I think I prefer the gold version.

Are there any other studded things in the shops right now that I need in my life? By the way I know I've been the worst blogger ever but here are some sleepy kitty photos to make up for it xx

As far as I know the Holographic nail polish by Gosh has been discontinued for quite a while now but I was lucky enough to find two bottles in the discount section of my local Superdrug. It's such a bitch to apply, I needed 3 coats and it still ended up patchy but it's so pretty it's worth the effort. It has a matte finish but when the light hits it erupts into a rainbow (not literally ;)) It was really hard to take a decent photo of this with the sun playing peekaboo but I did my best. Scrangie has better photos here. I paid £2.50 each but I've seen these sell on ebay for £20+ which is cray cray considering there are loads of holo polishes out there.

I don't need two bottles of this so I'm giving one away. As it was in the "bargain bin" I can't guarantee that it hasn't been opened or tested and there is a sticky label residue on the bottle, but apart from that it's perfectly fine!
The Revlon Lip Butters have been around for a while now and I'm sure most of you are sick to death of reading about them but I'm so in love with this shade that I had to blog about it. I bought my lip butters when they were on promotion in Boots - 3 for 2, and Sweet Tart was a sort of random choice as I didn't really know what to choose for my 3rd pick and I was more excited about Lollipop and Raspberry Pie. That said, I favour Sweet Tart so much more and I rarely wear the other two! The majority of the lip butters aren't very pigmented but this one is opaque in several swipes. My top lip is a deeper shade than the bottom but it covers them evenly and it's a joy to apply. It's a cross between a lipstick and a lip balm, veering more towards the lipstick side and the finish is slightly glossy. It's very forgiving on a dry lip (thankfully) but as it's a "lip butter" it does wear off easily.

It's my go to shade at the moment, I can't get enough! If you're on the look out for a new pink lipstick maybe give this one a go? I think it's the type of pink that's universally flattering. Most of the other shades are too sheer for me but I also like the look of Berry Smoothie and Candy Apple. Do you own any lip butters? I'm also looking forward to the Just Bitten Balm Stains which I hope will land in the UK soon.Tasshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17334717827247530617noreply@blogger.com14tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1200585552678800362.post-89215046602814845082012-06-10T14:21:00.000+01:002012-06-10T14:21:16.456+01:00My perfume collection

Yes these two perfumes make up my "collection". Quite pathetic isn't it? Truth be told I am not a big perfume wearer and I fall out of favour with scents very quickly. There comes a point where I can't stand to smell my own perfume on myself but these are the only ones which have survived my many purges.

Miracle by Lancôme (Top Notes: Freesia, Lychee Heart notes: Magnolia Base notes: Jasmine, Amber)

I don't think this is a very well known perfume? I discovered this via a sample when I was 19 and it is the only one I will buy over and over again because it holds so many good memories (it's funny how scent can be a trigger). There are a few other versions out there but this is the best. I consider this to be my signature scent but it only really comes out on special occasions as I'm scared I'll get sick of it.

Alien by Thierry Mugler (Top Notes: Mandarin Essence Heart Notes: Moroccan Jasmine Base Notes: White Amber, Cashmeran Wood)

A Christmas gift from my colleagues and something I don't think I would have picked out myself but I love it. It's very much a winter scent and I feel so grown up and glamorous wearing this. I like to spritz this on my coat and it lasts for ages but on bare skin it fades nicely to something subtle.

My past collection has included D&G Light Blue, Hugo Boss Femme, CK Be, Paul Smith Flower, Paco Rabanne Black XS, Moschino Cheap & Chic, Moschino I Love Love and Lolita Lempicka. All of which have been passed onto my mum and sister. I find it hard choosing new perfumes as I'm always changing my mind but the two I really like at the moment are Stella McCartney's L.I.L.Y and Love Chloe. I also love Chanel (Chance is my favourite) but so do a lot of people! I can't be the only one who doesn't like smelling like everyone else? I remember my first year of college when Kenzo Flower came out and even though I really liked it I didn't buy it because every girl wore it. I think the current popular scent is Lady Million? Another really nice one.

My new favourite summer dress is this no brand polka dot one recently bought in TK Maxx (£12.99). It looked so cutesy on the hanger though I don't think this translates well on me, especially in the awful changing room photo, ick. I feel a little like an overgrown toddler with the large collar but I love the length (not too short), the sleeves (it has them!) and the ever so slight 50s feel. Paired with my beloved H&M gladiator sandals and I'm set.
Is everyone is enjoying the marvellous weather we're having? I spent Monday lolling about in Hyde Park and only left at sunset. Think I may spend some of the Bank Holiday weekend there too as I don't think there are any Jubilee street parties happening in my area :(

I really do hope to be posting more often now that there's ample daylight to take photos. Speak soon xx
Tasshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17334717827247530617noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1200585552678800362.post-61787607506534683272012-05-21T19:43:00.000+01:002012-05-21T19:43:18.620+01:00A little trip to TK Maxx

As I finished work earlier than usual I decided to swing by TK Maxx, specifically on the look out for some SLS free shampoos. I had a Brazilian blow dry on Friday and have to switch shampoo as the sulphates in my normal shampoo will break down the keratin and it won't last for the 3 month it's supposed to. My hair is SO greasy right now and tomorrow is day 4 so I'm going to run home after work and gleefully jump into the shower. Lank greasy curtains begone!

My sister uses Naked shampoo which is SLS free but it made my hair really dry and I had read that Tigi have SLS free shampoos which are meant to be good. There were quite a few of those large pump bottles of Tigi superstar shampoo but I bought a normal sized tube of Some Like It Hot which is heat & humidity resistant as well as sulphate free. It smells nice and I hope it works well. The shampoo section had so many great buys. There was Frederic Fekkai Shea butter shampoo for £6.99, Bumble and Bumble Creme de coco shampoo for £9.99 and lots of mini sets of MOP for £4.99.

I also found some Essie sets! A cool pale blue, a creamy salmon pink and the only one with the label still attached, 'Jam N Jelly' an iridescent fuchsia. All for a bargain sum of £9.99. The makeup section wasn't too impressive but I found this Stila bronzer for £3.99.

It's rare to find things you like or that are unopened in TK Maxx but when you do, it's brilliant. Have you found anything good recently? Also can anyone recommend a SLS free conditioner? I didn't manage to find one today.Tasshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17334717827247530617noreply@blogger.com14tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1200585552678800362.post-27906426135836106212012-04-27T22:42:00.000+01:002012-04-27T22:42:38.057+01:00My week in photos and what I bought

From L-R:

1. Stage one of the process of experimenting with dip dye. I'm hoping the blue will turn out as awesome as this so fingers crossed. Also can't get enough of these metal collar style necklaces going around, this one is from River Island (£7) and I love it so much I bought the silver one too.

2. Yummy handmade spinach and ricotta ravioli from Pasta Remoli in Westfield.

3. New bag from Zara (£19.99) but I might get the black version. Grey looks chic but it gets so grubby when going to and from work on the trains.

4. Another Westfield purchase, my new Bobble water bottle! I have no problem drinking tap water but I hate the taste of it when I've refilled a normal plastic water bottle. I always get told off for not drinking more water and I'm hoping this will encourage me to.

5&6. Constant rain and grey skies are so depressing but I've been getting lots of wear out of my mid calf boots my dad bought for me. £18 from Aldi would you believe it.

7. Collection 2000 Multiplier Mascara isn't too grand but it was a cheap buy (£4.99) and the Extreme 24 Hour Felt Tip Liner was free with purchase (usually £2.99). Hands down the best felt tip eyeliner I've ever used. It doesn't smudge and it stays on ALL day.

8. I love my new jim jam bottoms from Primark (£5).

9. Found my Nintendo DS in a drawer and I've spent all day on this. Gotta catch em all!
What have you been upto this week?Tasshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17334717827247530617noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1200585552678800362.post-42172135899903087132012-04-14T14:21:00.000+01:002012-04-14T14:21:41.137+01:00VO5 Gloss Me Smoothly ConditionerI stay over at my rents about once a week and never bother bringing a wash bag as I only live 15mins away. I just use whatever is in the family bathroom. Lynx shower gel? Don't mind if I do! Thankfully my sister buys the shampoo/conditioner in the house . I've never considered using VO5 before not because I don't like the brand, it just wasn't on my radar.

I can't get enough of this conditioner. It makes my hair really soft and definitely less frizzy which is my biggest problem since I rarely straighten my hair these days. I guess this is down to the fact that it contains a blend of argan, avocado, apricot, jojoba and grape seed oils and the addition of hydrolyzed silk. It also smells really good which is important to me. I hate my hair smelling of nothing and am always envious of people who leave a waft of their shampoo scent when they swish by. I haven't tested this out yet but I can still smell it on the ends of my hair.

In my own shower I'm using Dove's Nourishing Oil Care Express Treatment conditioner and I've found that it doesn't make a remarkable difference. I know a lot of people rate it but it doesn't work for me. I guess you don't really know how well a product works until you have something to compare it to and for my hair, VO5 is so much better. I rarely buy matching shampoo and conditioner. I stick to Head and Shoulders then buy any conditioner that strikes my fancy or whatever is on offer. So I don't know how the shampoo is but I'll definitely be buying my own bottle of this conditioner especially as the whole range of VO5 shampoos & conditioners (250ml) are currently on offer for 99p in Superdrug.Tasshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17334717827247530617noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1200585552678800362.post-38290459792202892592012-04-11T19:59:00.000+01:002012-04-11T19:59:13.247+01:00My French Skincare and Haircare buysTwo weeks ago I spent five days in sunny Paris celebrating my sister's 21st birthday. I had already done all the touristy bits on my previous trip so this time was much more shopping focused and visiting lesser known areas of Paris.

Can I just say that the French have the most amazing food. I ate so much that I'm glad I don't own any scales coz I would be too scared to look. My bags home were bursting with cake, brie, crepes, madeleines and pain au chocolat. I'm still craving some authentic French bread and butter. Yummm!

My sister and I carefully planned out our shopping trips and did plenty of research beforehand. As recommended by Lisa Eldridge in her French skin care video our main destination was City Pharma (26 Rue du Four, near Mabillon metro stop). Although you are never more than 5 minutes away from a pharmacy the prices differ widely. I incorrectly assumed that a pharmacy more towards the outskirts of Paris would be cheaper but this wasn't the case. City Pharma is slap bang in the centre but was the cheapest around, however this meant it was rammmmed. I had to side step and squeeze my way through at every opportunity. Wasn't the best shopping experience but the low prices made up for it. Between my sister and I we must have spent around £100 in two separate trips.

This is my little loot

Bioderma Crealine H2O Micelle Solution (500ml): The holy grail of makeup removers and the accolade is well deserved. It swiftly removes eye makeup (even waterproof) without a leaving any horrid residue behind nor does it feel drying. I only use this on my eyes not my face but it feels just like water. I bought 3 bottles which were on promotion for 7.50 euros each. Bargain!! I don't want to think about what I'll do when I run out, I can't bear the thought of paying £16 for a bottle off ebay.

La Roche-Posay Effaclar Astringent Micro-Exfoliant Lotion (200ml): My first foray into this brand and I am really pleased. I love astringents and prefer them over cleansing wipes. I don't feel like my face is clean enough until I see dirt and this removes a lot (thank you London pollution). This was 8.50 euros and I might buy it again. If it lives up to the claim of tightening and unclogging pores then I'll definitely do so.

Evan Facial Spray (300ml): I am hoping that this humongous bottle will be used if we ever get a summer this year. I have a mini Avene spray which is exactly the same thing but is much dearer. I actually bought this in a large Carrefour supermarket for about 3 euros.

The following creams and ointments were bought out of curiosity after reading Gwyneth Paltrow's list of must haves. I don't have sensitive skin but the Mr does and these are for his benefit more than mine.

Avibon - Vitamin A cream for dry/rough skin and apparently wrinkles?
Homeoplasmine - An antiseptic ointment for skin irritations
Biafine Act - For healing superficial burns and sun burnt/sensitive skin.

Nuxe Rêve de Miel Honey Lip Balm (15ml): A little pot of heaven. I am not easily swayed from my faithful Carmex and I don't usually like honey products but love this! It's preservative free and contains Acacia honey, Shea butter and grapefruit essence - it smells (and tastes *ahem*) so good. It's quite thick and I think this would be perfect for wintry chapped lips. I paid 6.90 euros at City Pharma.

Klorane Mango Butter Conditioning Balm (150ml): The words "mango butter" drew me in. It just sounds so moisturising! It doesn't smell very mango-ey which was a bit disappointing. In my opinion a balm is thick and creamy but this has a thin formulation. I've only used it twice so haven't noticed a considerable different in the texture of my hair yet but hope it works. I think I paid about 5 euros?

Phyto Phytojoba Intense Hydration Shampoo & Phyto Phytobaume Hydration Express Conditioner: I've read about Phyto here and there but wanted to try for myself. There was such a wide range to choose from but I think I made the right choice. I normally always opt for hair products catering to dry hair in the hope that they will inject some life and moisture into my despairing barnet. I am waiting to run out of my current shampoo before cracking these open. I have only ever used "drug store" branded shampoos before so have high hopes. I paid 10 euros each.

With the exception of Bioderma most French brands are easily available to buy in the UK. I've included links to where you can buy them from in the titles but they are more expensive. I didn't buy anything from Avene, Caudelie or Liercac because nothing really took my fancy. I'm pretty pleased with my lot and am hoping I didn't miss out on something. What would you buy if you were visiting France?Tasshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17334717827247530617noreply@blogger.com16tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1200585552678800362.post-92166195198389917162012-03-16T18:17:00.001+00:002012-03-16T18:18:35.902+00:00Crosswires

Today I received my blog sale buy MAC Crosswires in the post (thank you Sabina) and it promptly went on my lips. If you didn't already know, coral is my favourite colour and this may be my new favourite one? It's a bit similar to Vegas Volt which I also love but this has more pink in it. The cremesheen formula means it's much more wearable than Vegas Volt which is amplified and shows every bit of dry lip. It's also a subtle wash of colour that can be built up to your preference which I really like as sometimes I don't like wearing a strong lip colour but still want a hint of something.

Can't really say anything about how long it lasts as I've only worn it for these photos but I don't think it's very long. That said I wouldn't mind reapplying this, I really love the cremesheen formula.

I've bought a lot of new lipsticks over the past few months so expect more posts like this soon xxTasshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17334717827247530617noreply@blogger.com19tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1200585552678800362.post-33403367574933725482012-03-12T21:28:00.000+00:002012-03-12T21:28:49.373+00:00Black & Navy?

I'm attending a wedding in three weeks and have finally managed to track down a suitable dress today, this lace beauty from Next. It's now the most sophisticated dress I own even though I look nowhere as good as the model does in it (impossible task methinks). The only thing is that I've come a bit stuck on what shoes I should buy. I know a nude pair would go great with this dress but I spent the day in Zara cooing over all the gorgeous shoes and all my favourites are black!

Can you see a trend here? I do love a platform and a chunky heel.

Is it ever okay to mix navy and black? Normally I don't really adhere to certain fashion "rules" but it's a formal occasion and I want to look my very best. What do you think? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated :DTasshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17334717827247530617noreply@blogger.com16
