Review: ELF Mineral Lipstick in Pouty Petal

During one of E.L.F's many promotions, I added this to my basket so my order would come to a neat £10, entitling me to free postage. There are a total of 16 colours in their mineral lipstick line and I chose the shade "Pouty Petal" because it seemed safe and unassuming.

This is what E.L.F have to say:

"Now you can hydrate your lips and get a lasting soft color naturally! This nourishing blend of exotic oils, natural waxes, vitamins and plant extracts create the perfect moisturizing formula. The sleek lipstick has superior color payoff, glides easily onto lips, and is long wearing. Lips stay perfectly hydrated and soft throughout the day for no fuss, lip loving happiness. All our mineral makeup is 100% mineral based with no parabens, no preservatives and no chemical dyes."

I can't dispute its hydration claim because it is the most moisturising lipstick I have encountered (out of the 5 I own!). Looking at the ingredients, it's not a surprise as to why, for it contains Jojoba oil, Coconut oil and Shea butter. However I disagree that this lipstick has "superior colour payoff" because I find that this particular shade  really doesn't.

Pouty Petal is a very sheer colour with light shimmer and I had to layer it at least 4 times for it to show up in the above swatch. On my lips it looks like I'm just wearing lip balm so perhaps it is better suited to someone whose lips aren't very pigmented, as mine are.

I am disappointed with my purchase because I incorrectly assumed that all their colours were matte as I have seen swatches of other colours on other blogs. There is no mention on their website of which colours are sheer and which are matte and I think they need to rectify this.

At a cost of £3.50, it's not a complete loss but I won't be repurchasing this particular colour again.

Boots Haul

I tried to take full advantage of those £5 off Ruby & Millie/No7 vouchers that Boots were doing last month and ended up with 3 new brushes! I bought two No7 blending brushes (only one is pictured) and an angled eyeshadow/liner brush from Ruby & Millie for £1 each, yay! I also purchased a Rosewater toner by Botanics which I will be reviewing soon.

I bought two lipsticks and a lip pencil from the Natural Collection, which were £1.99 each.

I want to start wearing lipstick and thought I'd ease myself into it and test out what colours I can pull off. I'm not so fond of the lip pencil because I find it's quite hard and my colour choice wasn't so great. I love the lipsticks though. Fig leaf is a nice nude-ish mauve colour but I can only pull it off with a pink toned lipgloss over the top. I really like Rose Bud - it's a pretty wearable pink. Both are "moisture shine" lipsticks so they're not drying at all. I can't comment on longevity because I haven't dared to wear them outside of my house yet. Really need to work on that!

Review: Barry M Blusher in Raspberry

I was excited when I heard Barry M were bringing out a range of blushers because I knew the colours would be fantastic and I was not disappointed.

I have so many blushers so I resisted Raspberry's charms at first but it was futile. I fell in love after a good swatching session in Superdrug one dark and dreary December afternoon.

I'm not so crazy about the packaging - it looks cheap, plastic and tacky, but I do love the colour payoff.

(I wouldn't necessarily wear the blusher as heavy as it is in the swatches)

It is marketed as a sheer blusher but I disagree as it's so easy to over apply - you only need a small dab and you have to blend LOTS to avoid looking like a clown. The upside of this is that it lasts for ages! I've also managed to successfully use this as an eyeshadow.

It also says on the website that the blushers "contain the anti-oxidant Vitamin E to protect and condition the skin and keep it smooth and supple." Though I can't say that I've noticed any difference in my skin in regards to that.....

At £4.50 for 7g, I think it's a bit pricey compared to Sleek blushers which are £3.29 for 8g (and their packaging is far nicer). I don't think I would repurchase this colour again but I would like to try out their more muted colours like Rose and Teracotta.

The High Street S/S 2010

I can't wait for winter to be over so I can start dressing for Spring!

I never shop at New Look but I might start after seeing these promos. I'm a sucker for anything girly especially polka dots and bows. Also loving the lace at Dorothy Perkins and floral dresses from Primark. I thought Topshop and H&M were a bit blah, (most probably because of the styling)but the bandage style jeans and military esque cropped jacket caught my eye.
