Revlon Lip Butter: Sweet Tart

The Revlon Lip Butters have been around for a while now and I'm sure most of you are sick to death of reading about them but I'm so in love with this shade that I had to blog about it. I bought my lip butters when they were on promotion in Boots - 3 for 2, and Sweet Tart was a sort of random choice as I didn't really know what to choose for my 3rd pick and I was more excited about Lollipop and Raspberry Pie. That said, I favour Sweet Tart so much more and I rarely wear the other two! The majority of the lip butters aren't very pigmented but this one is opaque in several swipes. My top lip is a deeper shade than the bottom but it covers them evenly and it's a joy to apply. It's a cross between a lipstick and a lip balm, veering more towards the lipstick side and the finish is slightly glossy. It's very forgiving on a dry lip (thankfully) but as it's a "lip butter" it does wear off easily.

It's my go to shade at the moment, I can't get enough! If you're on the look out for a new pink lipstick maybe give this one a go? I think it's the type of pink that's universally flattering. Most of the other shades are too sheer for me but I also like the look of Berry Smoothie and Candy Apple. Do you own any lip butters? I'm also looking forward to the Just Bitten Balm Stains which I hope will land in the UK soon.

Crosswires

Heavily swatched and slightly out of focus, sorry!

Today I received my blog sale buy MAC Crosswires in the post (thank you Sabina) and it promptly went on my lips. If you didn't already know, coral is my favourite colour and this may be my new favourite one? It's a bit similar to Vegas Volt which I also love but this has more pink in it. The cremesheen formula means it's much more wearable than Vegas Volt which is amplified and shows every bit of dry lip. It's also a subtle wash of colour that can be built up to your preference which I really like as sometimes I don't like wearing a strong lip colour but still want a hint of something.

Can't really say anything about how long it lasts as I've only worn it for these photos but I don't think it's very long. That said I wouldn't mind reapplying this, I really love the cremesheen formula.

I've bought a lot of new lipsticks over the past few months so expect more posts like this soon xx

Eid shopping

Eid Mubarak to those who were celebrating yesterday. It was my first Eid with my husband, away from my family and it felt really strange. However I met up with my sister yesterday afternoon for a wee shopping trip in Westfield. It was rammed as always so we only hit H&M, Boots & MAC.

Primark PJ's FTW!

I was spurred on by Laiqah's post and finally bought Impassioned. It's very bright so think I'll only whip this out on special occasions for now, but hopefully will get lots of wear during summer. As you can tell I also treated myself to a long awaited haircut. No longer do I feel bedraggled and boring, but light headed and like my hair is healthy again :)

As usual I loved nearly everything in H&M but I only walked away with these really comfy winter boots. They're not real leather but they're very sturdy and the insoles are sooooo soft. Can't see them online but they're £29.99. I only bought a pair of boots two months ago but I managed to ruin them. I got caught in the biggest rainstorm ever where the streets/pavement flooded and I unavoidably stepped in a puddle that reached mid shin. The boots took 4 days to fully dry out but they now stink to high heaven of dirty rain/drain water. I only managed to wear them twice, gutted!! Fingers crossed this pair lasts.

Anyhoo I'm now on my way back to my cold and internet-less flat (damn you Sky and your long activation date). Catch you soon! xx

Russian Red

I'm at my parent's house right now and hallelujah internet connection. I've missed blogging so much but the engineer is coming this Friday to set my broadband up and I hope to be back ASAP. I've bought so many new makeup bits the past few months but my most favourite item is MAC's Russian Red lipstick.

Excuse my sullen face but I am so TIRED and boy does it show. It's just the most perfect vivid red lipstick and it makes me feel quite grown up. I don't really like matte formulations but this lipstick is creamy and it stays for ageeeeeeeees. I've been wearing it as much as possible, even incorporating it into my Halloween outfit! Any other gorgeous red lipsticks out there that you can reccommend?

No7 lipstick in Bare. A good nude for WOC?

I've been looking for a nude lipstick for a long time and it's been a bit difficult as most nudes that are marketed are for women who are about 10 shades lighter than me! I've already made the mistake of buying a few which look completely ridiculous. I guess the trick is not to buy a milky beige/pink colour but a warm brown with pink undertones.

Like this swatch of Bare!

I think this is the perfect nude lipstick for me. It erases my natural lip colour without washing me out and I feel really comfortable wearing it. A great everyday colour.

I have to say that I'm not really impressed with No7 as a brand itself. I bought this with my £5 off voucher but the original RRP is £10. I feel like this is a complete rip off and that No7 makeup is grossly overpriced for what it is. The quality of this is on par with a £1 MUA lipstick I bought a while back. The lipstick goes on thinly and smells waxy and cheap, whilst the packaging is plasticy and really dated.

I wouldn't buy this again, I just hope that I can find the same colour in another brand. Anyone know of anything similar?

Love thy name is....Inglot Matte Collection AMC Lip Pencil #28

A bit of a mouthful and slightly annoying that these lip pencils forgo names for numbers but they are amazing. It is only recently that I've become enamoured with lipsticks and I'm building up quite a collection but I would happily only wear this one forever!

This chunky pencil is a dream to use and so easy, no need to faff around with a lip brush. Just outline and colour in - simple. The pencil nib is hard but it doesn't drag at all like others can. And the colour #28....

...is gorgeous and so pigmented. I absolutely love it.

Usually my dry lips and matte formulations do not get on at all but this one isn't a very "dry" formula probably because of the avocado butter it contains. When I read about matte lipsticks with Shea butter and other moisturising ingredients I usually scoff because they never ring true. However whilst this Inglot pencil isn't moisturising, it's not chalky, doesn't drag and you don't need a thin layer of lip balm beforehand.

So what does it look like on? Here are two perfect examples of how NOT to take blog photos.

Exhibit A: Vacant with smudged eyeliner. Exhibit B: Blinded by the flash.

I took these photos last week and couldn't take any new ones because of my pesky cold sore. Plus I think photos of lipstick being worn are more helpful than swatches when gaging whether it will suit your own skin tone. Even if they are the worst ones in the world.

It doesn't last all day but the staying power is really good. Eating and drinking with this on is fine as there is minimal transfer. When it does start to fade, you're left with a pink stain instead of "bitty" lips.

The price is £9 for 4.5g although I bought mine for £7.20 as MUAs get 20% off and Amina kindly let me use her discount. I think it's well worth the price because it will last for ages. I've used mine quite a few times and there's no need to sharpen it yet. I will definitely go back for more, perhaps next time a more neutral everyday colour as I save this one for "going out".

What are your favourite Inglot products?

Sleek True Colour Lipsticks

These new lipsticks from Sleek were released last week and I just couldn't stay away. There are 20 beautiful colours to choose from and I ended up buying 6 as they're currently on offer at Superdrug - 2 for £6 as opposed to £3.99 each.

The lipsticks are matte or sheen but there are discrepancies depending on the colour. For example, Bare All is a matte which is very dry and slightly chalky whereas Amped, also a matte is smooth and has more moisture. Also the Sheen lipsticks aren't as sheer as I thought they would be. Barely There is quite pigmented, as you can see from the swatch. In fact the best thing about these lipsticks is how highly pigmented they are - one swipe is all you need.

These are what they look like on:

Hate the nude colours, they look awful on me and make me look ill. They were also my least favourite to apply - my lips are naturally dark and I found it hard to get even coverage. This may be something to consider if you've also got pigmented lips. The bright colours however? Love them! Especially Heartbreaker and Amped.

As I've mentioned before, I haven't worn them out so I don't know how well they last and the only other thing to note is that the darker colours do stain your lips.

In short, these lipsticks would be great for summer and with the wide range of colours, there's something for everyone. Are there any colours that catch your fancy?

The lipstick fiend

I don't know what's come over me recently but I've become obsessed with lipsticks. I've bought 9 in the past week. And how many times have I worn them out? Zero.

I come home, apply it, look in the mirror to see if it's okay then wipe it off and put it in my makeup drawer. Borderline crazy I know but I'm putting a stop to it. It's been 3 days since my last purchase and counting...

Also wanted to use this random post to give a heads up about my forthcoming post on the new Sleek True Colour lipsticks (yes I bought all of those with my own money). I have spent ages taking photos/swatching and I've only got a few left to do so it should be up on Thursday.

Rimmel Colour Show Off Lipstick in 'Tell No One'

Oh yes, another item of makeup which is coral - I just can't get enough! I only bought it last week but I'm already in love.

Tacky and cheap packaging aside, Rimmel come out with some great colour lipsticks and highly affordable too. I've wanted an orangey/coral lipcolour for a while but didn't want to splash out on something from MAC incase it didn't suit me and I was stuck with it.

It is described as "velvety matte" aka semi matte. It isn't as drying as some matte lipsticks can be but it still highlights any lip imperfections, especially dry bits (damnit). However the pigmentation is really good and it's opaque with one swipe, plus it has a yummy watermelon scent.

Doing my best "Deer caught in the headlights" impression. Sorry I don't think I will ever master the art of taking a decent self portrait!

I was surprised to find such a good coral as most high street lipstick ranges are made up of reds, pinks and browns with a few nude colours thrown in. This is exactly the shade I was looking for - the perfect balance between pink and orange and very wearable. I don't feel self concious at all when I have this on.

Longevity isn't brilliant, especially after eating/drinking but for £6.29 I'm happy enough and don't mind the reapplication.

What's your favourite lipcolour at the moment?

MAC Mehr lipstick

I try my best to steer clear of Temptalia because I always give into temptation. When I saw the lipstick swatches from the Mickey Contractor collection, I fell for Mehr big time.

It sold out very quickly online and I went to three different MAC stores before I found it. Even then, it was by chance as the sales assistant happened to find one lurking in the backroom.

It is a neutral shade of pink which I find very flattering and easy to wear. It probably would suit all skin tones. It's creamy and easy to apply but I wish it wasn't matte as it shows every dry patch/flaw. Lots of carmex is needed because I need all the help I can get when it comes to chapped lips - see photo below :(

Did you get anything from the Mickey Contractor collection? If I had the money, I probably would have bought all the lippies!
