Chop

Bye bye long bleached green split ended hair, hello short and healthy locks. I like to go for the chop every so often and love having both short and long hair. I am never faithful to just one hairdresser and went to Splash Salon on Goodge Street after work on Thursday where they only do walk in appointments. Perfect for those like me who like getting their hair cut on a whim. I paid £30 for a wash, cut & blow dry as my hair was quite long but if you have shorter hair it's something like £12. Can someone please tell me how much you are expected to tip? I gave £5 because my stylist was so nice and he cut his finger in the process but he also showed me how to dry my hair so it wouldn't flick up at the ends. Is £5 too much/too little? HELP

Also, if you are a hairdresser, what is your blow drying secret?!! Even though I was shown, I went home and used the exact same technique but my hair wasn't sleek, swishy and shiny just dry and slightly fluffy. In fact my hair looks nothing like the photo now, it's more Dora the Explorer :(

I WILL persevere but do you have any blow drying tips for me? xx

  1. Your hair looks AMAZING! I want to chop my hair so badly... In fact, the exact same length too.
Looks so pretty, I love it! It looks so healthy... Swoon! :)

I'm so rubbish at blow drying my own hair, and can never get it sleek so I just dry it roughly and then use my ghd's. Can't live without them for my unruly, frizzy hair! That's the only reason I'm a bit reluctant to cut mine... I find it easier to style when its long, and am scared I'll end up with a big short puff ball. :(

    xx

    1. Thanks Laiqah! I have GHD's too but they leave my hair really dry and frazzled in the long run xx

  3. I LOVE the cut Tass, so chic! I used to always have short hair but have been growing it for the last 2 years and I finally have long hair. Sadly it's weak and thin :( tempted to cut it off but having spent so long growing it I can't bring myself to do it.

I'm rubbish at blow drying but have a look on YouTube. Re tip, I usually give around 10 - 12% tip BUT only when I'm really happy with the service, there have been times that I've refused to tip. So I think you gave the right amount. xx

    1. I'm going to take your advice and look on youtube. There have been a few times where the service wasn't that great but I end up tipping anyway because I always feel guilty that they'll hate me even though I never go back xx

    2. No way!!! Don't do that in future, esp since you don't go back! They get paid to do that job, tips are based on level of service, just remind yourself of that xx

  4. Love love LOVE the hair cut Tass!

Back in my hairdressing days (Man I feel old!), £5 was more than generous! If I was lucky I'd get £3.00 max.

My hair is knackered at the moment and the only way for me to get the 'swish' effect is to invest in a good blow drying product. I currently use macadaima oil, expensive stuff but can a bottle can be purchased from eBay for £15 including postage and it lasts an age! Definitely worth buying xx

    1. When I last got my hair cut macadamia oil was used in my hair and it smelled sooooo good. I've seen bottles in tk maxx but the cheapo in me is a bit loathe to spend so much on oil haha xx

  5. Your hair looks lovely! I have to say I rely on straighteners to get the salon blowdry look, but when I make an effort and use a round brush whilst drying my hair it does make a difference.

    1. Thanks Becky, I was told to use a paddle brush which is so much easier for me coz I can never do it properly with a round one. I think I may have to give into the GHD's every so often xx

  6. omg looooove your cut -- I kinda want to get the same one!!! blow drying tip: bend over and blow dry your hair using a paddle brush. first, brush from the inside and blow dry from the outside, then switch. it works :))

  7. Oh big chop, your hair looks fantastic though, I must say. My hair is indeed in some need of a big chop but instead I've just gone back to dark hair and want to rest it up during A/W.

    Gorgeous photo xo
